• Clear debris from around the unit — leaves and pine straw packed against the coil choke airflow.
• Listen at startup — new rattles, grinding or buzzing after a storm usually mean fan or motor damage.
• Watch the first full cycle — short-cycling or warm air after an outage can signal a surge-damaged board or capacitor.
